WHY CHENNAI LOST THEIR LAKES ? | NIVARA CYCLONE | OMG EPISODE 3

Welcome to OMG EPISODE 3,

Did you Know why always rainwater get stagnant in Chennai? Same as like 2015 flood   1901 also had a rainfall of 262 mm, Compared to 2015 flood 272 mm of rainfall similar to each other.

But 1901 flood doesn’t cause too much of damages compared to 2015 flood why?

Those days Chennai had water tanks, lakes, and large water plant the system you won’t believe Chennai people have used those waters for farming.

1893 maps of Chennai shows us that between koovam and adayar has many water tanks.

Vysarpadi’s lake is the largest lake in Chennai but medavakkam , perambur , chepet ,  Nungabakkam, Mylapore , mambalam those places also had water lakes but ipo adhu mari lakes edhum ila.

1923 la  housing scheme konduvandhu lakes irutha place la people started occupying like Velachery apadi occupy pana place oda name tha thiyaraya nagar (T.nagar)

1941 la 54 acres occupied  pani construct pana college oda name …comments la solungapapom

1974 la vallur kottam also occupied during that period.

Chennai has only few left back now :

Vysarpadi, korattur , porur , Chembarambakkam , Velachery , athambakkam , pallikarunai , chittalapakkam , Retteri.

Chennai had 650 water tanks but now only 27 are left.

The only solution for occupation of lakes due to more population in Chennai

Make every small district same like railways and airways develop IT sector in  small districts.
